‘moon swim’ by makella.a

a poem by Makella.a

it’s been a while

since i

thought of what my reflection looks like

to the ocean

i remember reading somewhere

about the iridescence of black bodies in water:

of how bodies like the ocean drinks up

the brilliance of colour till the banks of sorrow and rejection run dry

why is it,

how is it,

that bodies of water can

see me for who i am more than the people who

look like i look

breathe like i breathe

and bleed like i bleed

it’s been a while

since i

thought of what my reflection looks like

to the ocean

perhaps because sometimes it’s

easier to refuse to see, what others refuse to see

despite the fact that it means you are denying your greatness

Makella is a 20 year old pisces femme who has a deep appreciation for the arts in all its forms
